... welcome to akash's websight!
There is too much noise in the AI x job loss discourse, but a few writers are more clear-headed on the matter than others, and I think David Oks is one of them. Contingent on the humans retaining some comparative advantage over models, I think we will likely be fine on the job front. The economy will change, so will the nature of work, but there will be work and a lot of it!
I saw a beluga whale in chicago last year. It was such a surreal experience. Their eyes, they are so human.

We really should not treat them the way we do.
The southwestern desert is underrated. After having spent some time in the big city and its perception of the outside world, I feel it is important to say that the desert is not barren but is teeming with life and so very beautiful.
This is all we have, folks.
Are there any writings in your life that have been life-changing?

I have at least two. Puppies, Pigs, and People by Alastair Norcross, and The Scaling Hypothesis by Gwern.

There is an alternate world out there where I grokked Gwern's essay in 2020-21 and ended up buying a lot of Nvidia stock, but oh well ...
Q: What's the deal with the domain name?

A: There was once a time when "akash" was a relatively uncommon name, and then they made a movie with a dude named akash in it, and too many akash's started popping up. What the heck!?
A category of museum objects I really admire: trinkets.

Around 3200 years ago, somewhere in Ugarit or Qatna or Aleppo or the cluster of regions that form modern day Syria, perhaps towards the end of the workday, an artisan made a small figurine of a ram.

Was it a gift? A house decor? A child's toy? I am not well read enough to know, but there's a story there!
Seth Rogen is an underrated genius of our times.

It was only while watching his latest, The Studio,* which is brilliant by the way, did I realize that Rogen started a production studio like a decade ago and half ago and produced media like 50/50, The Disaster Artist, The Boys, and Invincible. I feel sorry for having underestimated you, Mr. Rogen!

*S1E2 of The Studio is arguably one of the best pieces of cinema ever made, such brilliant acting and cinematography (and yes it is a one-shot).

Twen is my new favorite band! I have been introduced to and have discovered so many new artists and songs since last April, and I am quite happy about that.
The data center water usage discourse should be a case study on the entrenchment of populist culture. Some time last summer, entire communities unanimously decided, in a matter of days and weeks, that the greatest threat to the water supply was data centers. This is not even remotely true.

I think climate change is real because I believe in numbers on a graph. I think data centers are not water intensive because I believe in numbers on a graph. You should believe numbers on a graph!
